Black Ops Cold War: Are PlayStation 5 Users Being Bamboozled?
The beautiful black and white, Dubai building shaped PlayStation 5 has arrived. Of course, users are scrambling to see how well their last generation games perform on this new beast, including Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War. But what if you were to shell out $499 for a new PlayStation 5, only to realize you were playing the PlayStation 4 version of Black Ops Cold War?
Eurogamer had reported that some players who purchased and installed the cross-generation bundle or the Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War Ultimate Edition were the poor saps who got swindled. These versions include both the PS4 and PS5 versions.
The PS4 and PS5 bundle problem
The reason for this medley of confusion stems to how the user chose to download their bundle/edition. Like most bundles, you can choose what you want to install (multiplayer, DLC, modes, etc.). With the Black Ops Cold War bundles, if a user opted to “download all”, they would install both PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 versions, and the game would launch by default with the PlayStation 4 version for some.
How to fix it
Before you throw your controller in rage, Activision has responded with clarification. When you select the game on your PlayStation tile dashboard, highlight play and select the menu via the three-dot option. Select the PS5 version and you are ready to kill zombies & incite rage into middle schoolers. Though this issue is easily fixed, some users may not know or realize they are playing the PlayStation 4 version. Make sure you double check what you’re playing exactly and get your money’s worth.
